Last week I had the opportunity to get a way and continue working on my upcoming debut album!
I disappeared to Nundle, NSW with my producer and friend Karl Broadie to write more songs as well as record a few rough guide tracks. We were fortunate enough to stay at The DAG Sheep Station thanks to John Krsulja. John is another artist who’s album will also be out sometime next year!
Aleyce Simmonds joined us on Thursday and together we wrote a beautiful song which I’m hoping will be on the album. Later that afternoon, I listened as she recorded backing vocals on a few of my guides and as always I was just in awe of how talented she is as a singer-songwriter.
The DAG is an incredible and inspiring place to stay. With little mobile and wifi coverage, there is not much to distract yourself from your work (unless you are like me of course and you decide to make friends with the resident camel, wild fox, cats and dogs). The venue has seen many great songs born there over the past few years and the mid-year songwriters retreat is something I look forward to every July. The DAG is one of my favorite places in the world, it is my happy place.
I can not wait until my album is finished but until then, there is still much work to be done and I’m going to take it one step at a time. I don’t want to rush anything and most of all I want to be proud of my accomplishment. Above is a photo of myself mid-recording in one of the cabins at The DAG.
