Recently on my flight home I almost had a major panic attack. I don’t use the term panic attack lightly, I’m talking about full tears and hyper-ventilating. Luckily this particular time I was able to calm myself down so the poor woman next to me didn’t have to deal with it!
Here are my top 3 tips if you are a nervous flyer like me and need to calm-your-farm while mid air:
1. BLAST YOUR FAVORITE JAM - On this particular flight I had my giant headphones so I was able to block out all the plane noises and just listen to Dirrty by Christina Aguilera on repeat. You are lying if you say you don’t love that song.
2. DISTRACT YOURSELF - During take off I was unable to grab my colouring book so I had my magazine and read it at lightning speed with my white knuckles grasping those glossy pages for dear life. I also recommend having a game on your phone that you can play offline, that also seems to help me when I need it.
3. BREATHE - Now don’t get mad at me for saying this because I know it’s “obvious” but I use a specific breathing technique to slow down my breath which is called Alternate Nostril Breathing. It’s a form of meditation and I thank my yoga teacher Ourania for introducing it to me because boy did it save me. If you Google alternate nostril breathing you will find many tutorials on how it is done. After this I also then start to massage my temples and around my eyes using gentle circular motions because that’s where I tend to hold all my tension.
Hopefully these techniques may help you in the future! Let me know in the comments below if you have any other techniques and share them with me! I’d love to know what works for you.
Also! I have started daily vlogging on my YouTube channel and I have filmed my trip away to start recording my debut album! If you would like to check out part 1 and 2 of my trip you can find them below as well as on my channel:https://youtube.com/user/HayleyW092

Until next time, stay safe and be kind to everyone
